From Bratprince: Where Is Mia Michaels on 'SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE'?

As a huge fan of her choreography, I wondered why Mia Michaels was not on my favorite summer dance show.  I found the answer....sob.

“Last year when I was sitting on the [judges] panel, I knew it wasn’t the right fit because I felt too glossy sitting on the panel,” she exclusively tells us. “People were so focused on what I wore and my hair. I wanted to get dirty and back to the work. I am an artist and I’m a visionary. I need to paint my world now and not be constantly linked to So You think You Can Dance.”
Not that she doesn’t appreciate what SYTYCD has done for her. “It’s been a great platform,” Michaels says. “It was a wonderful platform. I’m staring at [my] two Emmys right now. It was an amazing, amazing thing for me but I feel like I have to fly. I have to now focus on Mia’s world.”
And that world includes starring in an upcoming Bravo reality show, writing a memoir and developing a Broadway show. “I heard they’re bringing Mary Murphy back and I’m really happy for her,” Michaels says. “I’ve sat in that chair, but I feel like that was Mary’s chair.”

They boarded their Royal Canadian Air Force plane at London's Heathrow Airport earlier today, ready to embark on their North American adventure and after a flight over the Atlantic and a quick outfit change for the Duchess, they have touched down in Canada.  Click here.

RI passes civil unions bill; gov intends to sign

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Overdoses, Hospitalized

Gay Softball World Series Hit By Heterosexual Cheating Controversy

Just how gay is gay enough for gay softball? The North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA) is now facing a lawsuit following a decision from the 2008 Gay Softball World Series to strip the second-place team of their title because the team was apparently composed of not enough homosexual players. According to The New York Times, the five players in question were taken into a small conference room and interrogated about their sexual preferences.  Click here.

Woman charged for preacher kiss at gay pride event

A Bible-waving preacher protesting at a gay pride event in North Carolina turned the other cheek – and got kissed on it by a 74-year-old female gay rights supporter who is now charged with simple assault.
Joan Parker admits she kissed a preacher on the cheek at the event, proclaimed by the Salisbury mayor as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Day.  Click here.

Gay Marriage: Maine Supporters Plan Referendum

Gay marriage supporters in Maine began laying the groundwork Thursday for another referendum on the issue, hoping to build on momentum from New York which last week became the sixth state to allow same-sex marriage.  Gay marriage supporters say many have changed their minds since state voters overturned a same-sex marriage law in 2009. They said Thursday they're filing paperwork with election officials to start the process of gathering 57,000 signatures to put the matter on the November 2012 ballot.  Click here.

Colorado Sees Surge In Same-Sex Couples Living Together, Census Data Shows

According to new census data released this week, the percentage of Colorado’s same-sex couples living together grew more than 60 percent in the last decade. Southwest Pilot James Fritzen Taylor Apologizes For Gay-Bashing Rant

The Southwest Airlines pilot whose profane and offensive anti-gay rant was broadcast over cockpit radio, then shared around the world, has issued written apologies to his fellow employees.
James Fritzen Taylor identified himself as the speaker on the tape, and sent a letter to the employees of the airlines accepting responsibility for the "derogatory" and "truly insensitive" comments.  Click here.

Elizabeth Taylor jewels, clothes, art going on 3-month international tour prior to NYC auction

Elizabeth Taylor’s prized collection of jewelry, art, designer clothing and other memorabilia will go on an international three-month tour before it is sold in New York in December, Christie’s auction house announced Wednesday.  The tour will begin in September and include stops in Moscow, London, Dubai, Geneva, Paris, Hong Kong and Los Angeles. It will end in New York, where Christie’s plans a “museum-quality exhibition” of the late actress’ collection that will fill its entire gallery space Dec. 3-10. Gay marriage breaks the National Review

New York's legalization of same-sex marriage has hit the National Review particularly hard. The magazine is based out of New York and has had a strong conservative Catholic bent since William F. Buckley founded it. Gay marriage in other states was something of an abstraction, distasteful but explained away as the work of activist judges. This, though, brings state acceptance of the gay lifestyle right into the National Review's backyard. And most worryingly, it happened over the vocal objections of both the Archdiocese of New York and the state's Conservative Party, the line on which William Buckley himself once ran for mayor.  Click here.

Southern Baptists (Don't) Support Gay Marriage: Website Hoax

Officials of the Southern Baptist Convention say they were the victims of a hoax in which a group claiming to be the denomination's Executive Committee announced it had started to support gay marriage.  A website of the "Southern Baptist Convention of America" features a "'welcoming and affirming' resolution on homosexuals" that it claims was drafted by the committee in an "extraordinary emergency session."  Click here.

LGBT Finally Included In U.S. Health Data

For the first time, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender populations will be included in the National Health Interview Survey -- one of the key sources used to gauge the health of Americans. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday morning that it will add questions on sexual orientation to the survey by 2013 and begin efforts to collect data on gender identity.  Click here.
