TOP TWENTY ONE: DIANA VREELAND

Diana was born to a well off family in 1903. Her mark on fashion is permanently indelible and unforgettable. Her ancestors include George Washington and Francis Scott Key.

As she began her career in 1936 Diana started as an editor for Harpers Bazaar. In addition she ran a lingerie business that was quite successful in Paris.

I wasn't long before Vogue Magazine snatched her up and elevated her to Editor In Chief in 1963.

Her taste and style were legend (D.V. has probably launched more fashion designers than any other person).

She was legendary for her love of the color red (a trait I share with her). The legendary designer Billy Baldwin did her entire apartment in red.

In the film FUNNY FACE (with Audrey Hepburn), Diana is portrayed by Kay Thompson.

Diana has two sons...one that was appointed the ambassador to Morocco.

Eventually, Vogue found Vreeland "out of style" thus hired Anna Wintour and let Diana go. However, she found "second life" as an advisor to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Fashion Collection" I have seen the collection and it is amazing!!!

Diana Vreeland introduced millions and millions of women to style and fashion. She was a legendary hostess and stayed at the top when many would be defeated. Diana Vreeland led Vogue for many, many years and her influence on fashion is indelible and permanent!
