Top Twenty Actors of All Time: Jodie Foster

Jodie Foster is an aclaimed actress, director, producer and scholar.

Jodie was born on November 19, 1962 and almost immediately began working in commercials at age 3 (her mother worked in film production and became known as a notorious stage mom). Jodie is actually the original inspiration for the Coppertone little girl who has "issues" with a small puppy.

She started her career with small roles on television but graduated to a string of Disney movies. In 1976 she took the heartbreaking role of Iris ( a preteen prostitute) in the film Taxi Driver co-starring Robert DeNiro. She was nominated for the Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress. She then became the youngest person in history to host Saturday Night Live.

She finished high school in France and speaks fluent French, German and Italian and often dubs her own films in the foreign language needed. She graduated from Yale University at the top of her class with a BA in literature.

In 1976 she was offered the role of Princess Leia in Star Wars but Disney would not release her from her contract.

In 1984, John Hinkley Jr. became obsessed with Jodie Foster and in homage to her and Taxi driver shot President Reagan, his press secretary William Brady (who was left with brain damage) and killed a secret service agent. The event was extremely disturbing to Foster and she went into seclusion for over a year.

As she matured, her career became red hot and she starred in a string of wildly successful films including The Accused and The Silence of the Lambs. Both films earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.

In addition to her two Academy Awards Jodie holds: 2 British Academy Awards, 3 BAFTA Awards, A Screen Actors Guild Award, A People's Choice Award and two Emmy nominations.

Aside from acting, Jodie has directed and produced films such as Nell, Little Man Tate and Home For the Holidays.

In the nineties, due to the pressures of her 2 children (she has never named the father or fathers), Jodie began to take on a string of less demanding but exciting action movies including Flightplan, The Brave One, The Inside Man and Panic Room. In 2008 she starred in the poorly received children's film, Nims Island.

In 2007 after years of silence and speculation, Jodie came out as a lesbian but still keeps her personal life very quiet.

Jodie is a most intense actress and has the distinction of being skilled from birth and transitioning from various age to age and remaining the consummate professional.
