November 2nd, by Bratprince

Voting this year will be a real chore.  As a life-long Democrat (except for my very first time in the booth when my Dad convinced me to vote for Ronald Reagan..I still worry it will come back to haunt me) I feel much like the rest of the country; apathetic and unenthused.

Blaming a bad economy on ANY President is ridiculous.  Presidents do not and cannot control the economy.  It churns along and we pretend that it can be managed.  We blamed George W. Bush for the economic collapse and now we are blaming Barack Obama for not being able to fix everything.  That's just silly and should not be the real issue.

However, I stand quite firm in my belief that we picked the WRONG Democrat to become President.  We went from a complete moron to a "yawn inducing", very dry college professor.  I think Obama has given it his all, but frankly he was simply too young and far too unseasoned to become our President.  Hillary Clinton would have been much stronger and more determined.  Right now, Hillary is married to the MOST POPULAR Democrat in the country..and he isn't even in office.  She is the only bright spot in the Obama administration and has proved herself an amazing Secretary of State!

Obama's talk about GLBT issues is impressive.  His record is abysmal.  So far, in my humble opinion he has done absolutely ZERO for the GLBT community.  In fact, he has fought to maintain the status-quo...I believe out of fear that he will lose votes.  Sorry Obama, you have just about lost 10% of the American population because of your inaction!  You made us a heap of promises and have yet to fulfill one.

Because of this I fear that the GLBT community will not turn against the Democratic party by voting for the dreadful and fear-mongering Republicans.  Instead they are just going to stay home and not vote at all.

Living in Texas is a very depressing voter experience.  Thankfully, due to the large influx of legal Latin citizens, Dallas county has slowly turned to a Democratic stronghold.  However, the entire state of Texas is one of if not the most conservative states in the union.  When a Democrat votes for state or national elections we know right off the bat that our vote is useless.

The Governor of Texas, Rick Perry is really rather dreadful.  He suggested a number of years back that gay people leave the state if we didn't like being second class citizens.  He has bent constantly to big business and actually isn't much smarter than his predecessor, W.  However, he will win re-election in a landslide against our rather dull Democratic candidate, Bill White.  Rick Perry will be the longest serving Governor in Texas history.....and mark my words, folks...the man has his eye on the White House....GOD FORBID!

So, sigh.....I will go and vote as always.  It is not just a privilege in this country to vote...IT IS YOUR DUTY!!  More people vote for 'American Idol" than for the President.  That is completely shameful and dismaying to the many people around the world that do not even get a chance to vote for anything.

We will watch both the House and the Senate return to Republican hands.  It will be a bummer.  BUT...I do have one bright spot of hope for us all.  Bill Clinton also lost both the House and the Senate during the mid-term elections.  It caused him to become more of a moderate center President....and he ended up working better with an opposition Congress than with his own party.  I hope this will be the same for Obama.  Perhaps if he doesn't have to fight his own party he can make some progress.

Remember to VOTE!  I am not wise enough to tell you how you should, just do it!

Yours, Bratprince
