Portia de Rossi/ DeGeneres

I had no idea that I would write on the BLOG today until I watched a taped episode of Oprah.  Okay, I admit it....my DVR tapes Oprah daily and I decide by subject matter if I am going to watch during the evening.  I could not care less about many of her episodes, but I had to watch Portia!

Portia came out about her many difficulties in life....her eating disorders and her difficulty being a public lesbian.

Her interview was amazing.  I have not checked, but I am sure you can find at least part of it on Oprah.com.

Portia was so honest; so upfront!  She reminded us all that living in the closet is a most miserable experience.

Her interview was brave and inspiring!

Recently, a Facebook friend of mine confided in me about his difficulties coming out to his family.  I was so very honored that he felt I was the person to talk to.

I got a message not long ago; it all worked out for him okay.  His mother told him she loved him no matter what.  I am infinitely proud of my friend that he was so brave and so happy that he felt he could talk with me!  J., you must know how much I respect your decision and am so pleased you are content!

Portia said it best:  it does not matter if you are a florist, a doctor, a lawyer, an actor or a writer.  Your life will be better if you come out and be the person you are meant to be!

I remember those days that I lived in fear of being discovered...when I was hiding my sexuality.  It was the worst feeling in the world.

Now, here I am...in control of a BLOG that is primarily for gay men and my identity is hardly hidden.  I may call myself the Bratprince, but I am proud to be a gay man and not ashamed to say that my name is Will Kolb.  So what if because I name myself I might show up on GOOGLE?  I've been on GOOGLE for lots of things, but none so proud as for who I am!

To our friends in the Hollywood community; Portia DeGeneres and her wife, Ellen.....thank you for helping the cause...thank you for making average Americans see that we are just like them....well...frankly...in general...thank you!

Come out, come out...wherever you are!  Life can only get better!

Yours, Bratprince
