OMG!!!! Look at the PRICES!!!, by Bratprince

Hmmm...is it just me or is everything going up in price?  Although my car didn't need gas today, as I pulled into the grocery store I noticed that premium gas was $4.03 per gallon.  I have no choice but to use premium gas, I drive a big Jag. and if you use lesser gas the engine knocks.  The last time I filled up the car it was a staggering $78! (I know, I know...a very high class problem).

Normally I don't even pay attention to prices in the grocery store.  I know I should, I just don't.  I throw whatever I want in the cart and just move on.  Today for some reason I actually checked prices as I bought.  Here is what I found:

Our brand of coffee has gone up from around $8.00 to $11.57.
I use L'OReal eye creme.  The price has gone from $11.97 to over $16.
Gary's favorite brand of milk has gone from $2.29 to $3.87.
Our bread has gone up a dollar.
My favorite cheese spread (a wonderful horseradish and cheddar spread) has gone from $2.00 and changed to $4.99.
The fabric softener I buy has stayed the same price, but the bottle size is quite a percentage smaller.

I brought home a mere four bags from the store and the cost was $87.  As I unloaded the bags I thought "what a rip off"!

Why are we lying to the public and saying that the economy is better???  It simply is not!  As I have said before, my business has slowed down and I have been quite bored staying at home all the time.  I've been wanting to get out there again and work.  Sigh, I've gotten "over qualified", "too expensive", etc.  In addition, I am convinced that because I am 44, my age has become an issue.  Employers can hire someone half my age for half the price.  I refuse to go work for someone and not get paid for my efforts with a fair wage!  Gary makes a great living and I have independent income, thus me working is not that important (don't mistake me...I still have clients and have been freelance writing).  Regardless...someone with my experience should easily be able to get a job.  A very talented friend of mine just took a job for half his normal salary regardless of the fact that he is highly skilled and talented!

My part time yard/gardener has had to add a new amount to his services due to the high cost of gas for his mower and other gasoline powered equipment as he helps care for our two acres. (Yes, I know...another high class problem).

I haven't really searched to find out the price of our home due to the fact that we have 100% equity and we are not planning to sell the house.  However, I'm sure the value is less.

Regardless that I have had the same house insurance for almost 15 years and never, ever made a claim, I have noticed each time the policy renews, the price creeps up slightly....no matter our "fabulous" discounts.  I won't even discuss health insurance as it has become ASTRONOMICALLY priced for both Gary and I.  We pay for our own insurance as I work for myself and Gary runs a restaurant that doesn't actually provide health insurance (although his boss pays 3/4 of the premium).

I guess it is oil driving up all the prices, but I TRULY wonder how those with big families...heck, even those with just a couple of kids are affording this?  I have a dear girlfriend that has a very successful husband, however they have four children and regardless of his salary they are beginning to struggle.

Let's stop lying.  It IS NOT getting better.  It's worse.  Our dollar is not going as far as before.

I worry....I worry a lot about the average middle class American (call me a limousine liberal), still....it just seems all so unfair especially as we are cutting programs to help the underprivileged!  How will they manage???

I suppose there is really nothing to be done, but this is a quite disturbing trend.  Our planet is literally burning up; water supplies are dwindling; huge amounts of Americans are losing their homes or just walking away.  Skilled workers are being passed over....and finally...a trip to the grocery store has become an exercise in spending a fortune.

Perhaps if politicians stopped caring so much about re-election and took a REAL stand on these issues we could make some progress.  Until then....we shall watch the U.S. sag into a worse and worse financial disaster.
